Get Muvo for your platform

Fresh Media Server install on Windows, macOS, Linux, or Docker — the same host on every platform. Then stream from the web app, Windows player, or macOS player.

Install the .NET Media Server on hardware you control. Linux and Docker use one-line installers that place the host on port 42000.

Windows 10 or later (64-bit). Fresh Media Server installer.

macOS

macOS 12 or later. Same Media Server as Windows — open the disk image and drag the app to Applications.

Open the .dmg, drag Muvo Media Server to Applications, then open it. It starts on port 42000 and opens the admin page. If macOS blocks it, Control-click the app → Open. Apple Silicon and Intel are separate downloads.

Linux

Ubuntu 20.04+ / Debian / Fedora (x64). Installs the .NET host to /opt/muvo-dotnet and enables systemd on port 42000.

Fresh install: ffmpeg, the muvo user, /opt/muvo-dotnet, and systemd muvo-server-dotnet on port 42000. Library data lives in /var/lib/muvo.

Docker

Builds the same .NET host from the linux-amd64 tarball. No Docker Hub image.

Needs Docker Engine + Compose v2. macOS: Docker Desktop first. Windows: use WSL2 Ubuntu. Details: Docker install guide.

System Requirements

  • Windows: 64-bit Windows 10 or later, .exe installer. macOS: 12 or later — download the Apple Silicon or Intel .dmg, open it, drag Muvo Media Server to Applications. Linux: Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian, or Fedora x64 — the one-liner installs ffmpeg and systemd muvo-server-dotnet. Docker: Docker Engine + Compose v2. The compose file builds the host; it does not pull a registry image.
  • Minimum 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended for transcoding)
  • 500 MB free disk space for the application
  • Network connection for remote access, account sync, metadata, and optional AI features

Quick Start

  1. Pick your server: Windows .exe installer; macOS disk image (open and drag to Applications); Linux curl -fsSL https://www.muvo.tv/api/download/install-muvo-server | sudo bash; Docker curl -fsSL https://www.muvo.tv/api/download/install-muvo-docker | sudo bash.
  2. Run the setup wizard and point it to your media folders
  3. Muvo scans your files and fetches rich metadata automatically
  4. Download a player (or use the web app) from the Media Players tab and sign in to stream
