Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Muvo.tv (“Muvo”, “we”) provides a self-hosted media server and apps that play the films, series, music, photos, audiobooks, and Live TV playlists you keep on your own hardware. This policy covers the Android and Fire TV app (package tv.muvo.player), the website, and the cloud account services at auth.muvo.tv and api.muvo.tv.
2. Your media stays on your hardware
Video, music, photos, and audiobook files are stored on your media server, not on Muvo’s servers. We do not upload your library files to muvo.tv. Playback talks to the server you connect in the app.
3. Information we collect
We collect only what the account and the app need:
- Account. Email (or username) and a hashed password when you register. Sign-in tokens are stored on the device in encrypted app storage.
- Device identifiers. A Muvo device id so this phone or TV can stay signed in and so your server can tell devices apart. We do not use advertising IDs and we do not run ads.
- Subscription status. Whether the account is Free, Muvo+, or Muvo AI+, so the app can show the right features. Payment is handled by PayPal on the website, not inside the Android or Fire TV app.
- Scout (Muvo AI+). If you use Ask Scout, the text you send (including speech that Android turned into text) and enough library metadata to answer (titles, not the video files) go to our cloud AI service.
- Microphone. Optional. Used only when you tap the Scout mic so Android Speech Recognition can type your question. We do not keep a voice recording on our servers.
- Live TV playlists. Playlist addresses you paste are saved on this device only. They are not sent to muvo.tv.
- Website. If you visit muvo.tv we may log IP address and browser type for security, and we may use analytics cookies on the marketing site.
4. How we use it
- Sign you in and keep the session on this device
- Connect the app to your media server
- Apply your Muvo+ / Muvo AI+ plan
- Answer Scout questions when you have AI+
- Protect accounts and prevent abuse
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
5. Who else sees data
- Your media server receives playback, progress, and profile headers so it can stream the file you asked for.
- Metadata providers (for example TMDb) are called by your server or our API with title search terms, not your video files.
- PayPal processes website subscriptions. The Android app does not use Google Play Billing.
- We use hosting providers to run auth.muvo.tv and api.muvo.tv.
6. Security
Cloud traffic uses HTTPS. On your home network the app may use HTTP to reach a media server that does not have a certificate. Tokens and passwords on the phone are stored with Android encrypted preferences. Android backup of those preferences is turned off.
7. Children
The app is for a general audience, not directed at children under 13. Household “kids” profiles and PINs are parental controls on your server. They do not make this a children’s app under Google Play Families or similar programmes.
8. Your rights
- Open Settings → About in the app for this policy and the terms
- Sign out or uninstall to remove tokens from the device
- Ask us to delete your Muvo.tv account — muvo.tv/delete-account — or to clear cloud data and keep the login — muvo.tv/delete-data
- Library files are deleted only on your own hardware
